Informing Contexts, Project Development - Exhibit
April 1, 2018Last week I had the opportunity to show my work in progress at Blue Sky Gallery in Portland. Blue Sky reserve a small corner in the gallery as an open, non juried exhibition space, and I felt that this would be the ideal circumstances to print and hang work that I had previously only viewed and distributed digitally.
As the wall space was small, I decided to print one large photograph with the rest of my images presented in a small zine. Through this process, I learnt the printing capabilities of my work. I found that this print (20x24) was not as sharp as I would have liked it, so next time I will print this image at a smaller size. Making a publication was also beneficial, as I was able to experiment with layouts and printing company options. Initially, I used Blurb to print my book, but was unhappy with the finish. Magcloud suited my needs better, providing preferable paper, and a seemingly better quality print with more accurate colors.
